Generate a true-to-scale ruler in millimetres or inches, then print it on a normal home printer. The SVG is produced at 1:1 — make sure to print at "Actual size" with no margins for an accurate measurement tool.

Quick presets

Print accuracy: always print at 100% / "Actual size" with margins set to "None" or "Minimum". After printing, compare against a known ruler before relying on the printed copy for precise measurements.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print this at the correct size?

In your browser print dialog, set Scale to "100%" or "Actual size" and Margins to "None". After printing, hold a real ruler against the printed one to verify; on most home printers the result is within ±0.5 mm. If it differs, your printer is scaling the page — re-check the print settings.

Why does my browser cut off the ruler?

Most browsers add a default page margin. Either disable margins in the print dialog or open the SVG in a vector editor that can print without margins.

Can I print a 30 cm ruler on A4?

Yes. A4 is 297 mm tall and 210 mm wide. A 300 mm horizontal ruler will not fit across A4 in portrait orientation but does fit when printed in landscape, leaving small margins on each side.

How precise is a printed ruler in practice?

A well-printed ruler from a properly calibrated home printer is accurate to a fraction of a millimetre — good enough for most everyday measurements. For precision work (engineering, machining), use a manufactured ruler or calliper.
